Introduction

Donating Food to Charity
Volunteers at Food Bank

I am a Boy Scout in Troop 613 in Westchester, New York. I created this website as part of my Eagle Scout Project to help Westchester County students find meaningful and impactful Community Service opportunities.  The website’s name “Tikkun Terra” is a combination of the Jewish principle of Tikkun Olam, which means to “Heal the World” and “Terra”, which means “Earth”.

The organizations on this site were selected based on the important role they serve in our community.  Many Westchester residents do not realize that people are struggling within 10 miles of their homes–and these organizations try to minimize that suffering. One part of the Scout Oath that I have always found meaningful is to “help other people at all times”. Please join me and volunteer for one of these organizations and together let’s heal the people of earth.

Thank you,

 Harrison Greebel

Backyard Sports Plus Program

Volunteers contribute to creating a positive, inclusive environment for young people through sports and recreational activities. The program, which serves children with special needs and those from underserved communities, focuses on providing accessible and engaging sports experiences. Volunteers support the children by helping them learn and play various sports, including soccer, basketball, and baseball, while encouraging teamwork, skill-building, and confidence. They work closely with BYSP coaches to create a safe and fun environment, assisting with setup, guiding participants during activities, and offering positive reinforcement. Volunteers may also help with organizing equipment and engaging with families to foster a welcoming community atmosphere. Volunteers are able to  make a meaningful impact by promoting physical activity, inclusivity, and personal growth for young participants. This  hands-on involvement makes the experience highly rewarding for both the volunteers and the children they support.

Once packed, volunteers can deliver these groceries to clients’ homes, offering not only food but also a friendly connection, which can be especially meaningful for isolated or elderly individuals. Volunteers often build supportive relationships with the people they serve, providing a sense of community and care.
